FEED YOUR LIPS: DIY SCRUB WITH ESSENTIAL OILS

A SIMPLE RECIPE FOR SOFT AND NOURISHED LIPS

Winter brings cold and dry air, often resulting in cracked and dry lips. But now, you have the opportunity to change that. In this blog, we'll reveal how you can make your own lip scrub using essential oils, which will provide your lips with not only instant hydration but also long-term care. Discover how to transform your lips and make them soft and nourished, regardless of the weather.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO MAKE THE SCRUB?

There are a few ingredients you'll need to make the scrub at home. In addition to basic things like sugar and oil, you can add essential oils to your scrub. We'll reveal the three best ones that will delight you and make your lips perfectly soft.

If you've ever studied what's in scrubs, you've seen that each contains sugar. It's no different in this case, as sugar is the basis of the lip scrub. It helps remove dead skin cells and leaves lips smooth and soft.

The next ingredient you'll need is coconut oil. It is moisturizing and nourishing and provides the perfect texture for the scrub while simultaneously hydrating the lips. Then, we suggest adding essential oils, and the best options are sweet orange, lemon, and clove essential oils.

Sweet orange essential oil
is known for its mood-enhancing and uplifting properties. If you choose it as an essential oil for your scrub, you can expect these skin benefits:

  • Sweet orange essential oil is rich in vitamin C – vitamin C is known for its brightening and antioxidant properties. Applying it to your lips will contribute to a brighter and more even appearance.
  • Pleasant citrus aroma – this pleasant and familiar scent adds a "burst" of freshness, creating a sensory experience that can lift your mood.

Lemon essential oil is full of vitamins and fresh aroma, and it will give your lips a real refreshment and a healthier look. However, what is special about lemon essential oil is:

  • Antioxidative benefits – lemon essential oil is rich in antioxidants and can help protect the lips from cold winds, contributing to a healthier and more youthful appearance.
  • Lemon essential oil is a natural scrub – it contains citric acid, which acts as a natural scrub. Therefore, it helps remove dead skin cells from the lips, making them smoother and brighter.

Clove essential oil in this case can help stimulate circulation, but also has these beneficial benefits for the lips:

  • Warming and soothing – clove essential oil has warming properties that can promote healthy blood circulation. It goes without saying that this is beneficial for the overall health of the lips during every season.
  • Clove essential oil has antimicrobial properties – the antimicrobial properties in clove essential oil can help keep the lips clean and healthy, and it is especially useful in preventing infections and/or irritations.

After briefly reviewing the necessary ingredients and their benefits, we believe you are interested in how to actually make your own homemade scrub.

HOW TO MAKE A HOMEMADE LIP SCRUB? WE GUIDE YOU STEP BY STEP

Making your own lip scrub at home may seem like a challenge, but it's actually a process that consists of only six simple steps. You only need six very simple steps to make a great scrub that will give you super results and the lips you desire.

STEP 1: GATHER ALL THE NECESSARY INGREDIENTS

Before you start doing anything, check that you have all the ingredients. You will need ¼ cup of sugar, two tablespoons of coconut oil, five drops of sweet orange essential oil, five drops of lemon essential oil, and two drops of clove essential oil.

STEP 2: MIXING THE BASE

In a small bowl, mix sugar and coconut oil. The sugar will scrub the lips, while the coconut will moisturize and soften them. Mix until you get a consistent, grainy texture.

STEP 3: ADDING ESSENTIAL OILS

Once the texture becomes grainy, add essential oils according to the measures we mentioned, or depending on your own preferences. However, be careful how much oil you put in so that each oil is evenly distributed and felt.

STEP 4: TESTING THE CONSISTENCY

Check the consistency of the lip scrub. If it seems too dry, add a little more coconut oil. On the other hand, if the scrub is too moist, add more sugar. Adjusting the ingredients to achieve the ideal texture ensures that the scrub provides optimal care and softness to your lips.

STEP 5: TRANSFERRING THE SCRUB TO A CONTAINER

Once you are satisfied with the mixture, transfer the scrub to a clean, airtight container. You can use jars or small cosmetic containers.

STEP 6: USING THE SCRUB

Now comes the best part – using the scrub! To apply, take a small amount of the mixture on your fingertip and gently massage it into your lips in circular motions. Leave the scrub on your lips for about twenty minutes, then rinse it off with water and apply your usual lip balm afterward.
